GetGlue General FAQ

How do I get Stickers?
Simple Answer:  Check in to items you like.
Long Answer:  For stickers that have already been released, pay attention to what other users on the site have earned.  Most of the stickers out there are for fandom of a specific item and are earned at either your first check-in, your fifth check-in, or your fifteenth check-in.  Why there's no tenth check-in sticker for anything is beyond me.  Some stickers, such as the favorite authors, require you to Like a certain number of items, e.g. books by that author.  Other stickers may require you to check in with a specific word or phrase in your comment, which I have tried to note when it is known.  Some stickers require you to check-in to a topic on a specific date, which pretty much screws any late adopters out of that award.  Some stickers may require you to like a certain amount of things that are related to the topic, which has been noted as well.  For stickers that have yet to be released, pay attention to GetGlue's Blog (http://blog.adaptiveblue.com/) and Twitter feed (http://twitter.com/GetGlue).  They give hints at new stickers on both as well as teasers about dates that the stickers will be released and clues on how to get them.  On release day, hit GetGlue and start checking in to the items you think may have stickers associated with them.  With any luck you'll be the first to find one!

I think I earned a sticker but it didn't show up on my list?
Sometimes that happens.  Like any other site, GetGlue can experience bugs, especially during high-traffic times.  Bugs on earning stickers also seem to happen more frequently to users that already have a lot of stickers on their profile.  If you feel you have met the requirements for earning a sticker and have not received it, take the following steps:
1. Document the steps you took to earn the sticker.
2. Wait a couple hours and check-in to that topic again - sometimes glitched stickers will appear.
3. Double-check your list of stickers to make sure it didn't appear somewhere else.  GetGlue has reorganized the list of stickers multiple times since the start and the sticker may not be in the section you expect.
4.  Tweet your issue to @getglue
5.  E-mail your issue to support@getglue.com

I had a sticker and it disappeared.  What can I do about that?
Depending on the whims of GetGlue, some stickers are not permanent.  If you know which sticker disappeared then you should either tweet @GetGlue or contact GetGlue support.

The graphic on the sticker I earned changed.  What happened?
Some stickers have different levels and as you progress through the levels the sticker you have on your profile will change.  The prime examples of this are the stickers you get for liking X amount of items in a specific category; the numbers and colors on the stickers will change as you progress up in level, culminating with a gold sticker for hitting the max level.
The flip side to this is Glue deciding to change the graphic on a sticker.  The original stickers for some TV shows (Raising Hope and Lone Star in particular were some of the first to exhibit this) had different graphics that were changed with no explanation.

What's the standard check-in phrase for TV and Movie trailers?
For stickers for the trailer for movies and TV shows, the default phrase for check-ins is "I watched the XXXXXXXX trailer. Excited to see the premiere!" where xxxxxxx is the name of the movie or TV show.  Quite often it's easier to just find someone who has the sticker, click on their sticker link, and it'll take you to a screen where you can watch the trailer and check in.
Note:  I've received word from Sabrina that technically all you have to do is mention the word "trailer" in your post and it'll trigger the sticker when you check-in.

I missed getting the sticker for the premiere of X.  What can I do?
Unless you actually checked in to that topic during its premiere, you're S.O.L.  If you did check in during the premiere but didn't earn the sticker like everyone else, contact Glue support.

What gives with the Boardwalk Empire stickers?
Boardwalk Empire was a special case. In order to get the full set of stickers you originally had to check in every week during the show. If you missed a week, you missed a sticker level and would be unable to get the full set. On 3 December, 2010 GetGlue announced that they would be changing the awarding of the full set of stickers to allow fans that had joined GetGlue after the start of the show and had been checking-in to get a full set and would instead offer a unique sticker to the fans that had earned the full set via the regular weekly check-ins. This drew much ire from users that had previously been checking-in weekly, but has since become a non-issue.

Do I have to be in front of my computer to check in and earn stickers?
No, but you will have to have a smartphone of some sort or an iPad.  For iPhones and iPads there is a GetGlue app available for free in the app store.  For Android phones, search Android Market for "GetGlue" or scan the QR code available athttp://getglue.com/apps/. The same goes for Blackberry phones - see the GetGlue Apps page. For all other smartphones (Windows Mobile or any phone with a web browser), use your phone's browser and go to http://getglue.com/mobile.   Note that the mobile site will also work on your computer's web browser and can give you an accurate count of how many times you've checked in to a topic.

What the heck is this Guru thing and how do I steal it from someone?  Why would I want to steal it?
After you Like and review an item you'll be in the running for the ability to be the Guru of that item.  Whoever has the most points for that item is awarded the Guru title, so to steal the title of Guru you have to score more points on an item than the current Guru.  Stealing Guru titles is the only way to earn the Thief sticker.

What do you mean by "points"?
If you like and check-in to an item you earn base points that can count towards being the Guru.  You also gain points by people voting for your review and check-in comments.  You're never actually told your current guru point total.

Why doesn't it seem to be accepting my check-ins?  Why don't I see myself earning points?
If you check-in to an item repeatedly you'll see that some check-ins net you zero points.  This means you've checked in to that topic too recently to earn anything for the check-in you just did.  This is to keep someone from spamming up the check-ins for a topic and earning the stickers in a matter of seconds.  In order to ensure that your check-in is valid and to earn the points for your check-in, wait about fifteen minutes between check-ins.

Why are my stickers all out of order instead of in a nice grouping?
GetGlue has changed the sticker layout several times since its inception. Originally the layout had the stickers listed by groups in one long list.  GetGlue changed the way stickers were displayed on their website on 5 Oct, 2010.  Instead of following the grouping they had previously used now all users' stickers are displayed in the order in which they were earned.  This makes it easy to check and see what your friends have earned recently, but made it a beast to try and keep track of which ones you do and don't have. GetGlue has since set up a Stickers page where each user can track what upcoming stickers they do and don’t have. The only way to view legacy stickers that are No Longer Available (NLA) is to either search for their name on the Stickers page or view them on your own or someone else’s sticker listing.

I can see other people earning the sticker for X but I can't, even though I'm checking-in with the same phrase! What gives?
Congratulations. You're likely experiencing the frustration of Time-Zone Lock. Sometimes GetGlue just requires you to check-in on a specific day to earn a sticker. In order to facilitate this, they set the stickers to be locked until 12:00 AM (midnight) in any given time zone. So for example if you're in California and one of your friends lives in New York, they will be able to earn the sticker three hours before you can. This is compounded by people having friends who live on the other side of the world, because they will be able to earn the sticker well before anyone in the USA will be able to.

What's up with the Bonus Sticker Clues I see on some of my stickers' descriptions?
The bonus sticker clues are pointers towards phrases that can be used during your check-in to earn an additional sticker, the same way the other phrase stickers can be earned. It just means that GetGlue is giving us clues to the phrases now instead of making us guess at random. You don't have to have earned the original sticker with the clue in order to get the bonus sticker. Just check-in with the answer phrase.
